Personal Go-Kit

 

ID - Personal name tag with call sign or ARES Shirt with name

Clothing - two pair, wearing one and one a spare

2- ARES shirts preferred, not required
2- Pants, long and comfortable but no worn or torn places (dark or tan color)
2- Socks
2- Underwear - comfort is main consideration
2- Tees, color does not matter, radio room will be either cool or hot (no lettering expect ARES)
1- Jacket or sweatshirt as room may be cold at night)
1- Timepiece (clock, watch, phone)

Additional Clothing for outside deployment (Full or partial)

1- Rain gear (poncho, rain suit, rain pants)
1- Hat (baseball-type, sunshade, etc. to protect eyes)
1- Headband (hot & humid if power is down)
1- Sunglasses to protect eyes from sun and wind
1- Sun Screen, SF15+ protect skin from sun and wind)
(No insect repellent as no bugs immediately after a hurricane)

Medications - in prescription bottles (prevent being challenged at some point) for up to 7 days supply

Toiletries

1- Soap with container
1- Hand sanitizer, small
1- Wash cloth
1- Hand towel (hands, hand bath)
1- Toothbrush
1- Toothpaste
1- Comb
1- Deodorant
1- Toilet paper (yes there should be some, but sometimes run out)
1- Paper Towels, partial roll

First Aid Kit

Band-aids
Aspirin
Other personal needs

Food (Storm shelters will have food, other shelter may not, Hospital cafeteria will have food, but take cash)

Snacks (There will be no food until the shelter is past registration plus other situations described above)

Trail bars, breakfast bars
Packaged Sandwich
Chips
Nuts
Packaged Candy or candy bar

Special Needs (If you require special food, you should bring your own unless you are at the hospital)

Last minute shelters (This location is for travelers and those who make last minute decisions and storm shelters are full,  Typically there may be no provision for food or just packaged foods and water).  The last below is for you to bring.

MRE's with heater packs
Ready-to-eat foods with can opener (meat spreads, fish foil packs, beans, fruit) and bread
Fresh fruit
Peanut butter/jelly and bread
Water bottle already filled
Coffee cup
Silverware (plastic, metal)

Accessories

1- Phone charger
1- Electric Shaver (electric, battery powered - include charger) or razor and shaving gear

Sleeping (Generally not room for cots, shelters will be cold at night)

1- Blankets
1- Pad (yoga pad, backpacking pad, air mattress)
